UTAMED certifies its diplomas with SmartPortfolio on blockchain

The University Technological Atlantic Mediterranean (UTAMED) is enhancing its online education by certifying its diplomas on the SmartPortfolio platform, through a collaboration agreement with SmartDegrees.
Students receive their digitally diploma already certified on blockchain immediately upon completion of their studies, thanks to an innovative solution implemented by the university. This solution, connected to the SmartPortfolio platform, offers high scalability, seamless integration, and complete automation.
The solution allows students to manage the authenticity of their diplomas and share easily their data with third parties, guaranteeing the inviolability and authenticity of their qualifications, as they are registered on blockchain, benefiting from the innovation of Web3.
Advantages of blockchain certification: Speed, convenience, and security
- It facilitates the recognition of the degree’s value, as it allows for quick and easy sharing with third parties.
- The users have sovereign control over their data and decide where, how, and when to display and use it.
- The application and the underlying blockchain technology guarantee its authenticity and inviolability, preventing any type of fraud.
With this solution, UTAMED anticipates the future European Digital Identity Wallet (EUDI Wallet), to which European citizens will be entitled from 2026. UTAMED students will be able to incorporate these diplomas into the wallet, using the European Commission‘s Verifiable Credential standard, and interact digitally with other universities and institutions in other countries, thanks to the interoperability provided by eIDAS2 regulation.
SmartPortfolio is an innovative solution that helps university students in their job search and mobility, as well as universities in their digital transformation. It has received funding from the Community of Madrid and the NextGenerationEU funds, and was selected as one of the first 20 use cases of the new Spanish Blockchain Services Infrastructure (ISBE), promoted by Alastria. Currently, certifies on Polygon, which in turn certifies on Ethereum, and will offer ISBE certification as soon as it becomes available.
